Lego League
Lego League requires working together as a team to create and research for a project, accomplish missions, and program a robot with a focus on gracious professionalism. We meet twice a week for the first semester (longer if the team advances at competition). The competition is beginning of December. There is a chance to advance, depending on how the team performs. Science Olympiad
A nationally organized competition with preliminary Regional and State Competitions. A team of 15 students maximum is composed of 7th and 8th graders, 6th graders if needed and an option to invite back maximum of five freshmen. Regional and State competitions include 23 events spread over an eight hour schedule on a Saturday. Regional is currently at SWIC in late February or early March, and State is at U of I, usually third Saturday in April. Preparation for events requires extensive planning and organization if one hopes to medal. ICS has had twenty trips to State since 1999. Coach: Mr. Dan Kassebaum Grades: 7th-8th |
Scholastic Bowl
Fifteen students, grades 7th & 8th (6th if needed), are selected to compete in competition with other schools. These competitions demand a wide range of knowledge, quick responses, and the ability to infer answers from the information given. Speech Team
The purpose of our middle school speech team is to provide students with opportunities to develop public speaking, communication, storytelling, and presentation skills. It also offers a platform for our students to practice and compete in various Diocesan speech meets. Each year we compete in three Diocesan meets; beginners in the fall, intermediate in the winter, and a final all Diocesan meet in the spring. Coach: Mrs. Jodi Hrabusicky Grades: 6th-8th |
Math Team
Students compete in a variety of math competitions including the Gibault Math Contest, SLU Math Contest, Mathcounts, & more. Practices to prepare for competition are also held weekly. Coach: Mrs. Karen Weiler Grades: 6th-8th |
