The ICS School Board is an advisory group organized to support the principal and pastor in developing and implementing school policies. The Board provides input and advice, acts as a liaison between parents and school administration, and may serve as a catalyst for change and development at ICS.
The Board meets every 3rd Tuesday at 7 pm, except in July, in Room 220. Meetings are open to the public.

Duties
The purpose of these policies is to provide an outline for how the ICS School Board operates. They are intended to help communicate to Board members, prospective Board members and other interested parishioners the mission of the Board and how it carries out its work.
Like the school itself, the School Board should be a living, evolving entity. For this reason, the School Board policies should be updated as the needs of ICS and the Board change.
Duties of the Board
a. Promote the school mission of living out the Gospel.
b. Implement the policies of the Diocesan Bishop and the Diocesan Board of Education.
c. Establish policies for the operation of the school, as well as for the operation and maintenance of ICS facilities and equipment.
d. Assist in hiring the Principal and in formally evaluating his or her effectiveness each year.
e. Set standards for teacher compensation.
f. Promote understanding of and support for ICS within the local community.
g. Establish committees to address school needs.
h. Evaluate the adequacy of School Board policies and the effectiveness of their implementation.
i. Political action supporting ICS’s interests at the federal, state and local levels.
j. Budget Committee:

- Reviewing and approving this annual budget, with periodic reviews to ensure expenses remain in line with the budget.

b. Membership: Committee membership should include one or more Board members and additional members of the school and parish community. A Board member will typically chair the committee and will seek the help of non-Board members whose skills and interest make them valuable to the tasks of the committee.
c. Evaluation: All committees will be evaluated each year at the September meeting to assess their value and relevancy. Committees no longer considered necessary will be redirected or dropped.
d. Standing Committees: Some needs at ICS are ongoing and call for standing committees. In general, standing committees include:
e. Committee reports: Each committee chairperson or representative should be prepared to give a brief report at each Board meeting. These reports should fit into one of three categories:

A Board member will typically chair the committee and will seek the help of non-Board members whose skills and interest make them valuable to the tasks of the committee.

d. Standing Committees: Some needs at ICS are ongoing and call for standing committees. In general, standing committees include:
- Executive – Made up of the President, Vice President and Secretary. It acts on behalf of the Board in urgent situations between regular meetings.
- Budget – Reviews budgets and manages teacher compensation issues.
Buildings and grounds – Helps oversee maintenance of physical facilities and helps address safety issues involving the facilities. - Curriculum –. Meets monthly with the principal and teacher representatives to discuss curriculum. Other items such as the state testing results of each of the grades for the school are discussed.
- Athletic – Meets with Athletic Director periodically to review sports issues. Acts as a liason between the Athletic Director and the parents of the athletes.
- Development – The goal of this committee is to come up with ways to increase enrollment, retention of students, and to create projects which will help market our school. The Annual Fund, updating the ICS website, creating marketing brochures, administering open houses, creating activities to involve 1-5 year-olds, creating, administering, and reporting the results of school surveys are some of the activities handled by this committee.
- Teacher/Employee – Meets with teachers to discuss their needs for the upcoming year. Reports this information back to the school board.
- Discernment – Invites and follows through with new prospective members for the school board.
e. Committee reports: Each committee chairperson or representative should be prepared to give a brief report at each Board meeting. These reports should fit into one of three categories:
- Informational – Simply providing an update on the committee’s work to date.
- Seeking feedback – Requesting the input of the other Board members on a closely defined topic or issue.
- Voting – Requiring the Board to vote on an issue.
